Clash of the Styles

As a homeowner today, there are a lot of different ways to decorate/design your home. You can use contemporary furniture for a more contemporary or modern feel, or you can use more classical furniture for a more traditional feel. Many people feel they have to stick to the same style in order for their home to look “right”. In some cases, one person in the household might like the contemporary look and another will like the traditional look. The good thing about this is that you do not have to settle and “marry” one style alone.

Mixing these styles will add a one-of-a-kind look to your home that makes it unique. If you have traditional, Mediterranean-style architecture, it does not mean you have to use Mediterranean furniture inside. Contemporary furniture goes together very well with the more classical-style architecture and vice versa. Even mixing and matching contemporary and traditional furniture pieces and accessories adds character and interest.

In our Azul & Company showroom in Coral Gables, we have a mix of antiques, lacquered, mirrored, and contemporary furniture mix and match. Asian/Eastern antiques go very well with the clean lines of the contemporary style. These antiques tend to have straighter lines and a cleaner look than French Renaissance antiques. On the other hand, you can have a French antique, lacquer and upholster it in a vibrant color and you’ve just transformed it to a unique modern piece of furniture. So, overall, you can have fun mixing and matching different styles to make an interesting space for you to live in and call your own. Enjoy your designing!
